Comparison of quartz crucible and graphite crucible

Crucibles have good thermal conductivity and high temperature resistance, and are widely used in metallurgy, casting, machinery, chemical and other industrial sectors, especially in the metal smelting industry, mainly used for the melting of metal materials. Crucibles commonly used for smelting metals are graphite crucibles and quartz crucibles. What is the difference between these two crucibles? We can compare them in terms of their appearance, heat resistance, heating material method and use.

Quartz crucible and graphite crucible have different colors. The quartz crucible is white cup-shaped and the graphite crucible is black cup-shaped, which is very easy to distinguish.

Quartz crucibles are more resistant to high temperatures than graphite crucibles. The highest temperature of the intermediate frequency melting furnace is 2600℃, matched with a quartz crucible; the highest temperature of the high frequency melting furnace is 1600℃, matched with a graphite crucible.

The heating methods of the materials during the use of the two crucibles are different. Quartz does not have resistance. When an intermediate frequency current is passed, the metal material in the quartz crucible generates induction heating, while the quartz crucible does not generate heat. It is suitable for smelting iron, aluminum, stainless steel, platinum, gold, palladium, etc.; there is resistance in graphite. When the high-frequency current passes, the graphite crucible heats the metal material through its own induction heating, which can smelt gold, silver, copper, alloy, K gold, etc.

The quartz crucible can be used alone, but the graphite crucible should be used with a quartz jacket because the graphite will oxidize. The quality of graphite crucible is related to its material and density. A good graphite crucible is evenly oxidized, and it is not easy to eat gold, resulting in low production loss; bad graphite oxidizes unevenly, which will eat up the material and cause high loss. When graphite is oxidized, it is easy to become thinner or even crack, so when using graphite crucible, be sure to put on the quartz crucible jacket. The quartz jacket plays a protective role.

Knowing the difference between quartz crucible and graphite crucible, we can choose the crucible better and more accurately when smelting metal.
